College of Engineering, Kidangoor has a full-fledged
Library and Information Center, which provides wide
range of reading and reference materials to the
students. Students can use the library from 8.30 AM to
5.30 PM on all working days and Saturdays. The library
has a collection of over 9000 volumes of books, 17
technical national and 17 international journals, 4
popular periodicals and 6 National dailies now. We are
maintaining a valuable collection of Reference books in
all branches of Engineering. The reference section is
having 3000 volumes of valuable reference books and the
lending section is having 6000 books. In addition we
have a wide collection of general and Informative books
also. A student can borrow 4 books (maximum) and 1
journal at a time. The books cover the syllabus of all
the branches in our college. The Internet facility of
the library is now functioning in the Computer Lab and
any information on net can be downloaded. We have a very
good collection of over 800 numbers of CDs in our
Library. The titles available in CDs can be either read
in the computer provided at the library or issued and
thus introducing the students to the digital age. One of
the remarkable changes is the Computerization of
Library. For this purpose Library Management Software
has been developed in our own Computer Lab. Now the
search for books and journals isl just clicks and
pointers. The library is undergoing expansion in each
semester and it is expected to reach a total collection
of more than 10,000 volumes of books when the college
reaches its full strength. With the co-operation from
the District SC/ST Welfare Board, the college started a
Book Bank Scheme for the exclusive use of SC/ST
students. Under this scheme the library has over 600
titles of books in the last academic year. The SC/ST
students can borrow two additional textbooks under this
scheme.
The College has a well-equipped workshop for training in
the following areas, carpentry, sheet metal and fitting.
The workshops are equipped with different types of
machines, hand tools, measuring tools, cutting tools
such as Bench grinder, Power hacksaw machine, Bench
shear, various types of files, hacksaw, vernier calipers
etc. Also we give training in welding and foundry. The
Electrical workshop of the College is having 30 boards
for giving training in wiring.
Many numbers of hostels for both boys and girls, with
good quality food and amenities are available near the
College. The facilities available for boys and girls at
present are sufficient. Private owners manage these
hostels and the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) of the
College closely monitors their functioning. For the
information and guidance of the students, the hostels
have been graded on a five-point scale and published.
The new entrants to the College and their parents can
draw information from this and choose a hostel of their
liking. Permanent Hostel buildings of the College
initially for girls and later for boys will be
established at the permanent site, only after the
completion of the construction of various blocks
In order to promote better inter personal relationship
among students and for creating an atmosphere in the
College congenial to technical learning and to reduce
the fatigue of the strenuous academic calendar, we have
been providing to the students of this College the
following amenities.
There is a
canteen running for catering to the needs of the
students and staff of the College inside the permanent
campus. Delicious vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian
meals of the local cuisine, and hot & cool
refreshments are served at affordable rates. The working
of the canteen is strictly monitored to adhere to
acceptable standards of hygiene.
The college has a regular bus service plying to and fro
from Pala, Ettumanoor and Kottayam town to the college
premises for the purpose of conveying students and staff
conveniently. The college campus is 1.5 km away from
Manthady Jn. The P.T.A College of Engineering, Kidangoor
operates college buses for the use of staff and
students. Three buses are also used to commute students
from Manthady Jn to Campus. The students and their
parents of this college are of highly appreciate for the
bus service. The cost of running the bus is met by the
students, which come to about Rs. 100/- per month per
student.
The College has a society registered under Co-operative
Societies Act with Reg. No. K-1006.There are about 500
members in the society including class B student members
and class A staff members. It provides the students and
staff with all necessary study materials including
drawing sheets, textbooks, notebooks, stationery,
instruments etc at reasonable cost. It is located in a
room at the permanent campus very near the classrooms
and the drawing hall. The students are given a discount
varying from 10% to 15% for the purchases made from the
society
The College understands education as a means for overall
development of a person. To achieve this College promotes
a wide range of student activities.
Sectional Associations
The College of Engineering,
Kidangoor has started sectional associations connected
with the four branches of study. They are
Information
Technology Association (SWIFT [SoftWare Innovation of
Future Technolog])
Computer
Science Association (LANCE [LANtern for Computer
Engineers])
Electronics
and Communication Association (EFFECT [Electronics Forum
For Excellence in CommunicaTion])
Electronics
and Instrumentation Association (TECHCEK [TECHnology of
CEK])
Electrical
and Electronics (EMERGE)
Through these forums the students of these branches of study
get ample opportunities to listen, see and experience the
latest developments in their fields, by organizing and
participating in Seminars, Exhibitions, conducting Invited
talks of scholars and eminent personalities and visiting
Industries as a part of study tour. The college has gadgets
like OHP, LCD Projector etc, for the conduct of various
programs.
Healthy mind lives only in a healthy body. The college
has a permanent Volleyball court and a Shuttle court. We
had purchased sports gears for all major games like
Football, Shuttle, Cricket, and Volley Ball and also for
Athletics. The College participated in University sports
organized by CUSAT and has established themselves as
major contenders. The College stadium complex will be
established during 2004 after the completion of the

Student chapters of the college have been actively
organizing technical talks, workshops and seminars to
keep the students in pace with the advancement in latest
technology.
The student council is constituted with representatives
elected through preferential voting system to
co-ordinate the co-curricular and academic activities of
the college. It has 1 member for every 10 students
The umbilical
cord of relations is never cut. The college has a
vibrant Alumni Association, which co-ordinates the
activities of outgoing students spreading the feeling of
togetherness. the association provides a platform for
information sharing, helps them in their career growth
and hence overall development of the institution.
